Mozilla Thunderbird is a powerful email application that can help you stay organized and keep you protected from viruses and spam. It is not the answer to all problems, but it is a great start and best of all it's a free download from the offical website.

Step 5: Setup Junk email control
Click on Tools->Account Settings.

Options main page
Click on "Junk Settings" under the Local Folders heading.
Make sure your setting look like above. You will need to check "Move new junk messages to:" and select "Junk folder on local folders". It is recommended to have Thunderbird automatically delete your junk mail after 28 days however this is up to you.
Click on Tools->Options

Options main page
Click on the Privacy tab.
Check "When I mark messages as junk:" and select "Move them to the accounts "junk" folder". Click OK and you should see a new folder labeled Junk.
Step 6: Use Junk email control
You should notice a button at the top of your screen called Junk. To label an email as junk select the email by clicking on it once and then press the Junk button.

If you configured everything correctly the email should disapear and go to your junk email folder.

The junk mail folder
In the junk mail folder you will see that the Junk button is now a Not Junk button. Check your Junk box daily in case of "false-positives". Sometimes a valid email will be incorrectly labelled as junk. Clicking on the Not Junk folder will teach Thunderbird to stop labelling the valid email as junk.
