When it comes to site traffic, time is money.
The tides are changing on the Internet as to how to quantify site traffic and better evaluate the value proposition of various online advertising services. Over the past ten years there has been confusion, misinformation and general uncertainty about how to gauge the effectiveness of a website and/or online advertising campaign. Understanding and separating the somewhat meaningless technical facts and statistics from the really important data has always been, and continues to be, a challenge for anyone with a website.
In the last few years the key criteria for judging the effectiveness of a website has been the number of “page views” how many times a web page is seen by a single visitor and “unique site visitors” per month or day. Similar to methods used in framing newspaper circulation, this has provided a baseline for online adverting rates and a tangible way to judge the effectiveness of a website.
More recently, questions began to crop up about how effective a measurement these two statistics really are, as these numbers also included people who got there by accident and other unqualified traffic. In July, the Nielson Rating Agency came up with new standards that include, “how much time a visitor spends on a site,” a criteria previously ignored, but now deemed critical. The logic is, the longer someone stays on the site the more interested they are in the content and the more likely they are to be interested in the site's advertising. This seemingly small change turned the online advertising world upside down, taking America On Line(AOL) from sixth place to first in the rankings, and dropping Google from first place to fourth. It makes sense, as Google is all about sending people somewhere else and AOL is all about being a destination where users spend time.
In the end, it's no longer the crazy statistical numbers some companies are quoting that necessarily reflect the success of online advertising; it's about the quality of the traffic on a site an how well the content keeps visitors engaged and returning for more. In the language of value proposition, the expression “quality versus quantity” is going to have huge meaning in the future success of websites and Internet advertising campaigns.

Case study – Tru-Point Forestry, De Queen, Arkansas US
Situation
Tru-Point Forestry had an out-of-date website that was lacking in architectural efficiency and was difficult to keep current. It's bland, dated design did not present a professional image for or do justice to the company's successful place in the industry.
Problem
When Tru-Point Forestry President Monty Bartek came to Point One Media his company website was in disarray and was difficult and time consuming to update. The design concept was dated and did not provide the company the professional image its clients expected. Bartek needed a professional looking website that enhanced the company image and was easy for he and his staff to keep vibrant with consistent content updates.
Solution
The first part of solution for Tru-Point Forestry was to complete the Point One Media website evaluation form to identify the company's online objectives and the needs of the company's customers. Once this stage was complete, a proposal was presented to Bartek outlining the development and design of a new website for the company. The proposal included a LaunchPoint website, which would provide the company with an economic, but highly professional image, and the Point One Media Web Page Editors to enable Bartek and his staff to update the site needing nothing more than a user ID and password.
Results
Within two weeks of receiving the materials the new Tru-Point Forestry website was launched and the client training was complete. The new Tru-Point Forestry website presents a professional image to the company's clients through a modern, streamlined design, and the simple but highly functional Web Page Editor business tool allows staff to update and maintain the site content with ease. Tru-Point Forestry had their online objectives met quickly, economically and with top-quality service.
